Shinjyukyu - Tokyo Seasonal Guide

Shinjyukyu

Tokyo Metropolitan Government Observatory

The Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building has two free observation decks that offer a panoramic view of the city of Tokyo from a height of 202 meters above the ground.
You can see Tokyo Tower, Sky Tree, and other landmark buildings of Tokyo. Fuji may be seen on a fine day from December to February, and since the observatory is open until 10 p.m., you can also enjoy a beautiful night view of Shinjuku.

⚠️
As of October 2023, the North Observatory is closed.

Tokyo Marathon

The Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building is also the starting point for the Tokyo Marathon. I participated in the Tokyo Marathon in 2023. I was able to complete the race, albeit slowly. I recommend running a marathon in the middle of Tokyo.
💡
Every year around August, there is an application process for the Tokyo Marathon.

Shinjyuku Gyoen National Garden

One of the most appreciated places I have guided many times is Shinjuku Gyoen National Garden. Surrounded by greenery in the metropolis of Shinjuku, the garden is overflowing with beauty.
One of the attractions of this garden is that it is composed of different styles of gardens, such as a European-style garden and a Japanese-style garden.
Visitors can enjoy not only cherry blossoms but also seasonal flowers. A leisurely tour will take about an hour, and a picnic with food is recommended.
Another place I recommend is Starbucks. Starbucks can be found all over the world, but it is rare to find one with a view of the beautiful Japanese garden.

Forest Beer Garden

One of the things I want people to experience in Tokyo in the summer is a beer garden where you can enjoy your meal outdoors, BBQ style. Among these, I recommend the Forest Beer Garden in Shinanomachi. As the name "Forest Beer Garden" suggests, the venue is surrounded by trees and is sure to relax you.
In this beer garden, you can pour your own beer from the beer server and drink freely within a limited time. The food is BBQ style dinner, which goes well with beer.
There is a baseball field nearby, and if you are lucky, you may be able to see fireworks.
