Komagome - Tokyo Seasonal Guide

Komagome

Rikugien Garden

If you ask me which season is the best time to visit Tokyo. I would say spring, cherry blossom season.
The peak of the cherry blossom season only lasts for one week of the year.
One of the parks where you can see beautiful cherry blossoms is Rikugien Garden.
Rikugien Garden is located a 7-minute walk from Komagome Station on the JR Yamanote Line or Tokyo Metro Nanboku Line.
The garden is rich in nature despite its location in the middle of the city of Tokyo.

Japanese Garden

Rikugien garden is a beautiful garden with many attractions not only during the cherry blossom season, but also in all four seasons.
You can enjoy just looking at the scenery, but it becomes more interesting when you become familiar with Japanese gardens.
Western gardens are mainly linear and symmetrical. Japanese gardens, on the other hand, are often curvilinear and asymmetrical.
Japanese gardens are artificially created by arranging stones, streams, plants, and other elements in natural landscapes such as mountains, seas, and rivers.

History

In 1695, Mr. Yoshiyasu Yanagisawa, an important government official, spent seven years building the villa himself.
He was a distinguished scholar who was trusted by the fifth Shogun, Tsunayoshi Tokugawa.
Yoshiyasu, who excelled at Waka , Japanese poetry, tried to reproduce the scenery of "Waka-no-ura",a famous place often mentioned in waka poems, or the "land of Waka poems".
Waka-no-ura is located in present-day Wakayama Prefecture.
Rikugien garden is also called a "theme park of waka poetry".
